Lewine Mair

Played for England at Under 18 and Under 21 level and for English women v. France while combining amateur golf with a column in the Birmingham Planet. Went on to work on a freelance basis for The Times, supplying articles and caricatures. In 1997 became the Daily Telegraph’s Golf Correspondent (first woman to be given a specialist position in the sports pages of a national newspaper) Worked with Global Golf Post since 2010. Twice featured on the shortlist for the British Sports Writers’ awards; author of several books including The Real Monty and 100 Years of Women’s Golf.

Fun Fact: Years ago, played a couple of tournaments as a professional. I won a cheque in the first of them and it bounced. (Two events all it took to realise that playing tournaments, rearing four children and writing was not going to work.)

Handicap: I need two more cards to recapture one.

Favorite Courses: Top course played is Turnberry. Course hoped to play is Fishers Island in the U..S.
