The latest iron offerings from Ping are geared toward two distinct groups, with the GMax being more of a game-improvement product while the i series is designed for better golfers.
In regard to the GMax, Ping engineers describe it as the longest and straightest iron they have made.
It uses what they call COR-Eye technology to activate the sole, face and top rail of the club simultaneously. That increases ball speed across the clubface up to 3 mph faster than other Ping models, they say, and that, in turn, increases distance.
In addition, a new cavity structure in the GMax houses a concealed Custom Tuning Port that connects to the sole, moving the center of gravity lower and farther back in an effort to enhance forgiveness and accuracy.
