The question isn’t whether Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson should be Ryder Cup captains in the future.
The question is when and for how long.
The subject came into focus recently when Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee said he doesn’t believe either deserves to be captain based on their lackluster performance in previous Ryder Cups and the way both have appeared to approach the event in the past, suggesting they either weren’t emotionally invested or put their self-interests first.
Chamblee is excellent at his analyst job with opinions that are well thought out and positions that are reasoned and occasionally provocative. He is not afraid to say what he thinks and if he sometimes shoots from the hip, it’s a hip pocket filled with statistics and observations to back up what he’s saying.
I disagree with Chamblee on this one and I suspect most people do.
Woods and Mickelson should be future Ryder Cup captains if they want to be.
