The debate as to who is the best player in the world is not limited to who happens to be No. 1 at any given moment. Jason Day is atop the Official World Golf Ranking this week, as a result of winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-Dell Match Play in consecutive weeks. Day unseats Jordan Spieth, who was No. 1 for the last 20 weeks. And former No. 1 Rory McIlroy officially lurks at No. 3.
As it turns out, any of the three could be No. 1 at any time. But who is the best when he’s at his best?
Spieth had the best run. His 2015 hasn’t been matched by anyone since You Know Who. He made what seemed to be every 20-footer he stood over, and with a putt here or there, could have taken a run at the modern Grand Slam.
