It’s official – Ariya Jutanugarn is the LPGA Tour’s latest breakout star. The 20-year-old Thai player won her third consecutive LPGA tournament, the inaugural Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Sunday. Jutanugarn’s triumph followed victories at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic and the Kingsmill Championship earlier in the month. With a final-round 67 at Travis Pointe Country Club, Jutanugarn finished at 15-under 273, five strokes ahead of Christina Kim (closing 71).
Who Didn’t Win:
Kim, whose Thursday 64 was the tournament’s low round, was in the hunt at the turn Sunday but was undone by two bogeys early in the back nine. She birdied the par-5 18th to grab second, her best finish since winning the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 18 months ago. Jessica Korda (closing 72) and Brooke Henderson (68) shared third place at 9 under. World No. 1 Lydia Ko finished T17 at 4 under, while No. 2 Inbee Park posted an opening 84 and withdrew for the second consecutive week because of a nagging thumb injury.
How It Happened:
