Adams a12 OS Aims For Game Improvement

Even as they make clubs for the very best players in the world, Adams Golf engineers continue to look for ways to make the game easier for everyday recreational players. And their super game improvement Idea a12 OS hybrids and irons represent the company’s latest attempt in that realm.

Standard men’s sets of these sticks are composed of three hybrids (4, 5 and 6) as well as two “transitional hybrids” (7 and 8) and three short irons (9, PW and GW), and each of the new a12 OS’s offers performance upgrades from previous Adams iterations. The hybrids, for example, utilize for the first time the Velocity Slot Technology already found on company drivers and fairways to help produce spring-like effect across the entire club face, which bolsters ball speeds for greater distance.

Then, there are the transitional hybrids, which have a “Truss Back” design that allows more weight to be distributed to the perimeter; that lowers CG (Center of Gravity) for improved forgiveness and more optimum launch angle as it also helps bridge the gap between the hybrids and the deep undercut cavity-back short irons, which have ultra-thin faces like the rest of the clubs in this line.

“The Idea a12 OS clubs enable players to launch their shots high without adding spin and as they also help them maximize their ball speeds,” says Michael Vrska, director of product development at Adams Golf. “Golfers can get their shots in the air more easily, and keep them in the air longer.

“At the same time, the sweet spots of the a12 OS’s are more generous, which improves forgiveness even more and helps to minimize the slices and hooks recreational players so often hit,” he adds.

Sets of the Idea a12 OS come stock with Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue graphite shafts or True Temper Performance steel shafts and Adams Tour Elite grips produced by Lamkin. And they may be tailored to a specific player’s needs by adding additional hybrids (2, 3 and 7), transitional hybrids (5 and 6) or irons (SW and LW) through custom orders. Women’s sets, with dedicated tooling and modified specs, are available as well.
