Ron Green Jr.: You still hear it all the time – will Tiger ever be like he was?
Well, he’s at Torrey Pines and has the lead going into the weekend at the Farmers Insurance Classic.
He’s holed bunker shots. He’s hit the flag with approach shots. He’s walking and talking like a guy who likes his chances.
Looks pretty familiar.
This is the 45th time in Tiger’s PGA Tour career that he’s had the 36-hole lead or a share of it. The previous 44 times he’s been in this position, he won 34 times.
He’s won this event six times and you may remember he won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008. That one got a lot of attention.
The only time Woods has led the Buick Invitational at the midpoint was 2008 and he won then.
Here’s the interesting part of the numbers: The last six times Woods has had at least a share of the 36-hole lead, he’s won just twice. The last two times – the U.S. Open and PGA Championship last year – he failed to finish in the top 10.
This time? We’ll see.
