Hall of Famer Vijay Singh is in the field at the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week and his presence suddenly became much more significant.
Singh is quoted in a Sports Illustrated story this week acknowledging his use of deer antler spray, which contains IGF-1, which is on the PGA Tour’s list of banned substances. It is also banned in other major sports.
According to Sports Illustrated, Singh paid a company called SWATS $9,000 for the spray – which contains natural anabolic hormone to stimulate muscle growth – and other products and is quoted saying he uses the spray “every couple of hours … every day.” Singh also uses a beam ray and chips provided by the same company.
The PGA Tour is reportedly looking into the matter as Singh prepares to play in Phoenix this week.
