Phil Mickelson has opened the Phoenix Open 60-65, is 17 under par and has a four-stroke lead on Bill Haas.
And he left the TPC at Scottsdale Stadium Course disappointed both days.
Funny game, golf.
Mickelson saw his putt for 59 lip out on his last hole Thursday then closed with a double-bogey on Friday, reducing his lead by a third. A par at the 18th Friday would have given Mickelson the all-time 36-hole scoring record at 123.
“I think it’s very possible that’s going to help me because it’s got me refocused, that I cannot ease up on a single shot,” Mickelson said. “I’ve got to be really focused. These guys are going to make a lot of birdies and I’ve got to get after it and cannot make those kinds of mistakes.”
