Vijay Singh is meeting with PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem today somewhere in private on the Monterey Peninsula. Singh is set to play in this week’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which he shouldn’t be.
Finchem is going to try to gather enough information to decide whether to suspend Singh for admitting to using deer antler spray, which contains IGF-1, a performance enhancing drug that is banned by the PGA Tour.
In fact, Finchem should have everything he needs to suspend Singh. It’s only the duration of the suspension that’s in question. All he’s doing today is hearing what he’s read from the source.
No question that Singh should be suspended for at least six months. And he shouldn’t be playing this week in Pebble Beach. In fact, both Singh and Finchem live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. They could have saved each other a plane ride had they met in the commissioner’s office. The sooner we can get this resolved the better.
