Arron Oberholser wanted more.
He shot 77 Thursday in the first round of the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, his first start of the year and only his third PGA Tour start since 2009 because of four surgeries on his left hand.
Hoping to resurrect a career that once had him ranked among the top 50 in the world, Oberholser was instead discouraged after one round.
“Awful. It’s awful,” Oberholser said. “I was expecting a lot better.
“It’s a lot farther away than I thought it was. Who I was six, seven years ago when I was playing well in the majors and top 50 in the world, I feel so far away from that guy. It’s a little disappointing. It’s a little unnerving.”
