While most of the rest of the golf world seems concerned about Rory McIlroy these days, Jack Nicklaus isn’t one of them.
During a visit to the television booth Sunday during the Honda Classic, Nicklaus said he expects McIlroy to be back to his old self very soon – and he’s not making a big deal out of McIlroy’s offseason equipment change.
“I always felt that it was your talent that plays, not the golf club,” Nicklaus said. “And Rory is so talented. He’s a good kid.
“I think he’s a little frustrated and he’s frustrated with himself right now and he’s probably not playing his best, and also he has a set of golf club that’s he’s having trouble getting used to and one sort of plays off the other.
“He’ll be fine. When Augusta rolls around, he’ll be fine.”
What about the walk-off at the Honda?
“I think if he waited five more minutes, he wouldn’t have done that,” Nicklaus said.
