If you’re watching the WGC-Cadillac Championship this weekend, take a good look at Doral’s Blue Monster course.
You won’t see the same course when the tournament returns next year. Demolition begins Monday after the tournament ends, with architect Gil Hanse overseeing a massive renovation/redesign of the famous layout.
“We are really doing massive changes,” new owner Donald Trump said.
The par-5 first hole, Trump said, will be lengthened by 100 yards and will have a new pond to the right of the green. The ninth and 10th holes are being redesigned. The par-3 15th hole will get a peninsula green. The famous par-4 18th will not be changed significantly, however.
The driving range will double in size and viewing mounds also will be created to enhance the spectator experience.
“The course will actually become much better and much more dramatic,” Trump said.
