Tiger and Earnhardt Take Us Back To The Good Ol' Days

Forget what the surging stock market and housing prices are telling us about recovery. Here’s all you need to know that we’re in a better place:

For the first time in almost a decade, both Tiger Woods and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are back at No. 1 in their respective sports.

Woods is atop the Official World Golf Ranking and Dale Jr. leads NASCAR’s Sprint Cup standings. To find the last time both were No. 1 at the same time, you have to go back to the week of June 13, 2004.

Or, like me, you can just thank ESPN media guy Andy Hall for doing the research and passing it along.

How long ago was 2004?

Barack Obama was an Illinois senator still unfamiliar to a lot of us.

Everyone was reading The Da Vinci Code.

Twitter did not exist.

No one but his parents knew who Justin Bieber was.

So take a moment and think about Tiger and Dale Jr. both back at No. 1.

And, just to be safe, do it before the NASCAR race in Martinsville this weekend.
