You don’t have to be a kid to know how cool it would be to play Augusta National on an April Sunday.
Starting in 2014, juniors ages 7 to 15 will be eligible to participate in the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship, which will culminate with televised finals from Augusta National on the Sunday before The Masters begins.
The contest, which will have local and regional competitions leading to the finals, is part of the club’s Grow The Game initiative in conjunction with the United States Golf Association and the PGA of America.
“Generations of players have been inspired by the dream of sinking a winning putt on the 18th green at Augusta National,” club chairman Billy Payne said. “Now an exciting opportunity exists to make that dream a reality.
“I am confident that our collective efforts with the USGA and the PGA of America will showcase the talents of kids who already play this game and motivate others to give the sport a try.”
Local qualifiers will be held in 19 states leading to regional events in 10 states.
