The Futura X Is Now

The first thing you need to know about the new Futura X from Scotty Cameron is that it is the putter Adam Scott used to win the 2013 Masters. He began working with Cameron and his team on a new putter design at the end of last year, and the Australian golfer put a version in play at the start of the new golf season. “Even when I began to play the Futura X on Tour, we were still tweaking the original design right up until I won The Masters,” Scott says. Clearly, they got things right. Not only is Scott still using his Futura X, but Jason Dufner also put one in his bag last week for the Open Championship. And now, the putter is available at retail. Precision milled from high-grade 6061 aluminum, the Futura X combines a rear balance bar with deep heel-toe weights plus perimeter weighting under the clubface. According to Cameron, that design provides unmatched stability through the stroke as well as forgiveness and solid feel. “I like to describe Futura X as a lethargic putter, for those golfers who need a slow, steady stroke that doesn’t jump around a lot,” he says. “It will give confidence to those who want stability during the stroke and less hand manipulation.” The overall weight of the Futura X is 20 grams heavier than a standard Cameron Select. The putter maker is quick to add, however, that as much of the weight is located behind the axis of the shaft and not directly under the golfer’s hands, and the club feels stable but not heavy during the stroke.
