The long-hoped-for Walker Cup-style competition for mid- and senior amateurs is finally going to take light in 2014. Officials from Concession Golf Club and HNS Sports Group announced the inaugural Concession Cup, a biennial amateur team match-play competition featuring mid-amateur, senior and super-senior competitors representing the United States and Great Britain/Ireland. The event will be at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., during the week of April 28. The competition will be conducted over three days through the traditional team match-play formats of foursomes, four-ball and singles. Each team will comprise 18 players separated into three categories: eight mid-am members (25 and older), eight senior members (up to age 65) and two super-senior members (65 and older). Team members will be selected by the Concession Cup executive committee and captains in the first year of the competition based on current playing records as well as international competition experiences. The intent of the committee, which comprises representatives from The Concession Club, HNS Sports Group and accomplished amateur golfers Alan Fadel and Adrian Morrow, is to recognize players with accomplished competitive résumés and who embrace the camaraderie and goodwill that the game embodies.
