Callaway Apex Forges New Ground

Engineers at Callaway Golf describe their new Apex irons as a technology-driven product, and they cite several reasons for making that assertion. Start with the multimaterial construction that utilizes a thin, 455 Carpenter steel face insert with a body forged of 1020 Carbon steel. The insert uses the same material Callaway employs in its high-performance X Hot fairways, and it is designed so the golf ball explodes off the clubface.
As for the forged steel body, it features a satin chrome finish and is made to produce a soft and responsive
feel on all shots. That combination, the technicians aver, allows the clubmaker to meld technical power with precision. In addition to the insert making the face hot, they explain, it also ensures that it is light, which allows them to reposition weight low in the iron.
