And so it begins…

The 2014 portion of the calendar-jumping PGA Tour schedule has arrived not a second too soon, emerging from the pile of leftover boxes and wrapping paper, to light up these frosty January nights now that the Christmas lights have come down and the Heart of Texas Bowl is over.

Technically, the Tour season began last October in California but this is when it feels renewed. There’s something comforting – and envy inducing – to tuck into a recliner while there’s ice outside and watch Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar playing the Plantation Course at Kapalua. It’s a spectacular setting, stunning in HD and even better in person.

It’s eye candy for golfers with scenes of Augusta green fairways, palm trees and new outfits for familiar faces.

Last year gave us Adam Scott at Augusta, Phil Mickleson at Muirfield and Henrik Stenson seemingly everywhere else.

This year gives us a double dip at Pinehurst, a Ryder Cup in Scotland and Tiger chasing No. 15.

Feels good, doesn’t it?
