Last week at the Volvo Golf Champions in South Africa, Charl Schwartzel performed an escape job that would make even Harry Houdini blush.
An errant tee shot during the third round left Schwartzel with one tough lie – his ball came to rest on the cart path deep into the woods. Faced with a drop that would leave him in worse shape, the South African decided to play it from the path. To the delight of his home fans, Schwartzel hit a pure shot, hitting the ball clear of the trees with a high draw to within five feet of the pin.
Only one thing went wrong with his escape: Schwartzel missed the putt.
