Long Live The WM Phoenix Open Party

As you watch the Waste Management Phoenix Open this weekend while waiting for the Super Bowl (spoiler alert: The Budweiser commercial with the puppy will steal your beer-drinking heart), you may wonder if the Phoenix golf tournament scene is as rowdy as it appears.

It is.

It’s where someone in attendance – it may be a stretch to call this person a true golf fan – was overheard saying, “I love coming to the tournament on Friday night.”

Each PGA Tour event likes to have its own brand.

The AT&T Pebble Beach event has celebrities. The Arnold Palmer Invitational has, well, Arnold Palmer. And Phoenix, it has a party with a golf tournament in the middle.

There are corporate logos painted onto fairways. Music thumps in the air near the 18th green. And the par-3 16th hole doesn’t know the meaning of ‘Sssshhhhh.’

It wouldn’t work every week.

But one week – Phoenix week – it’s worth toasting.
