The longtime title sponsor of the LPGA’s first major championship of the season won’t be back after this year’s tournament.
Kraft Nabisco, whose contract with the Kraft Nabisco Championship expires this year, won’t sponsor the tournament in 2015, LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan told The Desert Sun in an interview published today.
“I guess I heard in November, voice to voice, for the first time that 2014 would be the last year for Kraft,” Whan told the newspaper. “Until then, I think we always thought there was a chance that Kraft might come back.”
Still, the tournament is expected to return to Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., as a major championship next year, Whan said, adding that no announcement regarding future sponsorship is expected before this year’s tournament, slated for April 3-6.
