Orlando, Fla. — Topgolf, the Dallas-based entertainment company best known for point-scoring golf games in a social driving range setting, has acquired online sports gaming company World Golf Tour.
Along with the acquisition, Topgolf is adding two new divisions and reorganizing its corporate structure with a holding company to support the organization’s growth which has exploded in the past year. Topgolf has 24 venues worldwide and saw 8 million guests attend in 2015, a number that is projected to reach 12 million with entering markets such as Las Vegas in 2016. Now Topgolf will own World Golf Tour, which has more than 14 million players worldwide across all of their online, social and mobile platforms.
Topgolf will be one of three divisions held by parent company Topgolf Entertainment Group. The other two divisions will be Topgolf Media, which will create and distribute advanced media content, and Topgolf International, which will oversee the development of venues outside the U.S. and U.K.
