PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. | Regardless of how the final round of the Northern Trust Open plays out Sunday at Riviera Country Club, it’s already been a big week for Bubba Watson.
The fact he takes a one-stroke lead into the final 18 holes is almost like an extra squirt of chocolate syrup on his sundae.
So far this week, Watson has taken his 3-year-old son, Caleb, to see pop star Justin Bieber rehearse for his upcoming tour, taped a cameo appearance for an upcoming episode of the TV show Girl Meets World and attended the Golden State-Los Angeles Clippers basketball game Saturday night.
Hardly leaves enough time for golf.
The best, Watson said, was seeing his son react to Bieber.
“All he knows is he’s a singer and dancer. He doesn’t know who he is,” Watson said. “So watching him rehearse his concerts coming up, seeing his moves and stuff and I have a video where Caleb slid down the stage like Justin did. That’s got to be the highlight is watching the kid grow up in Justin, but also watching my son just react to him in a positive light, it was pretty neat.”
As for his television work, Watson is a fan of the series Boy Meets World (it no longer is in production) and has 48 episodes stored to watch while he’s traveling. When Watson was asked if he’d like to be in the new Girl series, he didn’t hesitate.
He plays himself and has just one line.
“They were not going to give me a line, and then they gave me line. That was 900 (dollars),” Watson said.
After finishing off a Saturday 67 that was capped by a brilliant par save on the finishing hole, Watson was off to the Staples Center to see some NBA friends in action. He’s also a friend of billionaire Steve Ballmer who owns the Clippers but Watson was not planning to sit with the owner.
“He sits too far away,” Watson said.
