Tiger Not Returning for the Players Championship

No Tiger Woods at the Players Championship next week.

And that’s no great surprise.

Despite indications that Woods is close to returning to the PGA Tour for the first time since last August, he is not in the field at TPC Sawgrass next week. There had been speculation that Woods might be ready to return from his third back surgery by then but it won’t happen.

That, of course, leads to speculation about when and where Woods will return. He has not offered any specifics on when he hopes to be playing competitively again, but the next event on the schedule that he traditionally has played is the Memorial in the first week of June.

He has registered for the U.S. Open at Oakmont in mid-June, but that does not assure he will play there.
