Jordan Spieth and company have opted out of the Olympics, but the women are seeing things quite differently.
A great example comes courtesy of Gerina Piller, the Solheim Cup hero who finished tied for eighth in the U.S. Women’s Open at CordeValle. Piller released the following statement after her high finish allowed her to qualify for the Olympic team.
“I am honored to have earned a spot on the Untied States golf team for the Olympic Games in Rio next month.
Representing my country at the world’s greatest athletic event would be an honor and privilege unlike any other, so I am excited to announce that I will be going to Rio! I look forward to playing alongside Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson as we try to bring glory to American golf and grow interest in women’s golf worldwide.”
To this point, only Lee-Anne Pace has withdrawn on the women’s side of the equation.
