Update:

Contrary to previous reports that Tiger had sent in captain’s picks, Davis Love III clarified in a tweet that his vice captains have only been sending in potential pairings.

Original Story:

It’s been nearly an entire calendar year since we’ve seen Tiger play on the PGA Tour, but he is determined to stay involved with the game and make a difference when the Ryder Cup rolls around.

Woods is serving as a vice captain to Davis Love III’s U.S. squad the first weekend of October when the Americans face off against Europe at Hazeltine National Golf Club. How big of a factor will he be? Well, despite the event still being two months out, Love says that Tiger has already sent in his suggestions for captain’s picks and pairings.

“He’s already picked his four,” Love said to Sky Sports. “I can’t tell you who they are, but he knows who he wants to watch and who he wants to manage and who he’ll get along with.”

The top eight players on the U.S. points list following The Barclays, which ends August 28th, will automatically qualify for the U.S. team. Love will then make three picks on Sept. 11 and one more pick on Sept. 25.

Ironically, the four players currently representing the Americans in Rio at the Olympics — Bubba Watson, Patrick Reed, Matt Kuchar and Rickie Fowler — are not currently qualified for the Ryder Cup, although they occupy the 9-12 positions on the points list.

Here are the current standings after Jimmy Walker won the PGA Championship:
