A string of tornadoes swept through west Michigan on Saturday, bringing 100 mph winds that felled trees, destroyed buildings, and devastated Ironwood Golf Course in Byron Center.
“We probably have 250, 300 trees down,” said golf course owner Joy Bradley. “It’s just total devastation. We will survive, but it’s tough.”
Golfers were evacuated Saturday morning before the worst of the storms hit. And once they passed, Bradley and six other employees began working to clear the greens and arranging for a tree service to arrive Monday. It is estimated that the course will remain closed for a month.
