Danny Willett added a green jacket to his wardrobe in April, but he won’t be adding any FedEx Cup green to his haul this season.
The 28-year-old Englishman joined the PGA Tour following his Masters triumph, making him eligible for the FedEx Cup playoffs and the promise of a $10 million bonus. But Willett, who finished the regular season 75th in the standings, skipped last week’s playoff opener, the Barclays, and opted to defend his Omega European Masters title in Switzerland this week instead of entering playoff event No. 2, the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Currently ranked 86th, Willett will not advance to next week’s BMW Championship, which will include the top 70 players.
Still, Willett will be back on this side of the pond for the Ryder Cup next month. And he is ranked No. 1 in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, setting him up for a lucrative payday should he perform well in the three-event Final Series in November.
