A violent confrontation on a Texas golf course ended up with a golfer being hospitalized with broken ribs and a fractured skull the day after Thanksgiving.
The problem began when a foursome hit their approach shots into another group still putting out on the 17th green at Indian Creek Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
Perturbed by this breach of etiquette, Michael Plumlee, 27, threw a ball off the green, which led to an altercation between him and Kevin Sivilay, 42.
An enraged Sivilay assaulted Plumlee, bashing him on the back of the head with an iron, knocking him to the ground unconscious, where Sivilay struck more blows on Plumlee’s body, said Jolene DeVito, Carrollton police spokeswoman. His injuries are serious but not life threatening, she said. Three days after the incident, Plumlee remained in the hospital with a brain and back injury.
Police said the perpetrator tried to flee the golf course but was blocked from leaving by golf carts. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. CBS news reports that Sivilay has a previous conviction for car burglary, but this crime could lead to 20 years in prison.
