We’ve never seen a pink golf ball – struck with a pink driver, no less – soaring through the air in PGA Tour competition.
That is about to change.
Bubba Watson has signed a multi-year deal to play Volvik’s S4 four-piece, 105-compression golf balls, the colorful two-time Masters champion told media members ahead of this week’s SBS Tournament of Champions in Lahaina, Hawaii, where he is expected to put one of the unique pink or pearl blue balls into play Thursday. According to Volvik, a lime green ball should be available to Watson by the Waste Management Phoenix Open early next month.
The S4 golf ball traditionally has come only in white, but Volvik made a special shade of pink for Watson that received USGA approval recently.
“I’m always trying to find new ways to grow the game and have fun out there and Volvik’s approach is the same,” said Watson.
Volvik has been a fairly popular ball on the LPGA Tour in the past four seasons with the brand’s staff members winning three tournaments. Two players won events using an orange ball, something that had never been done on the LPGA Tour.
Orange and yellow Volvik balls also have been put into play during PGA Tour events. Past Zurich Classic of New Orleans winner Tim Petrovic has used them in 29 tournaments and will continue to play them on the PGA Tour Champions circuit this season.
