We’ve seen our fair share of shanks from professionals – such as this Jon Rahm hosel rocket caught on Protracer last summer – but rarely do we see them occur on pitch shots with the ball sitting perfectly in the fairway.
That’s what happened to 2011 Open Championship winner Darren Clarke in his opening round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Clarke found himself short-sided and needing a soft flop shot to get the ball anywhere close.
He produced a wicked line drive instead:
Ouch. Playing alongside newly appointed European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn, Clarke struggled to a 3-over 75 and will need a solid second round to make the cut.
However, he did notch a victory off the course following his round. Journalist Robert Lusetich started by first taking a dig at Tiger Woods’ poor play and then bringing some heat at Clarke:

Clarke’s magnificent comeback:
Taking shots at players on Twitter is all fun and games until they actually call you out.
For the record, Clarke leads 21 players in the field, including Woods (77).
