We found golf’s version of a foul ball at a baseball game.
Let’s start by saying that we love famed actor and noted golf enthusiast Mark Wahlberg just for the epic par-3 in his backyard if not for his role in The Departed.
Unfortunately, the lefty’s performance on the 16th hole of the Waste Management Phoenix Open pro-am deserves a boo. Playing partner Bubba Watson talked Wahlberg up and even mentioned that his restaurant is soon coming to Arizona. The goodwill didn’t earn the actor much after Wahlberg hit an absolute hosel rocket into the stands.
Fast forward to the 6:00 mark to see Watson’s intro and Wahlberg’s shot:

OK, so maybe telling 20,000 people how nervous you are didn’t help. And having a two-time Masters champion watching probably added to the pressure cooker as well. To give Wahlberg credit, he did warn everyone before stepping up to hit the shot. He also followed up with a nice mulligan.
Will he get over it? He’d better, given that he’s playing at in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am next week.
