In this week’s episode of the PostCast, Sean Fairholm and Cassie Stein are joined by New England Patriots kicker and two-time Super Bowl champion, Stephen Gostkowski.
Gostkowski is the fourth-most accurate kicker in NFL history and his golf game isn’t too shabby, either. The four-time Pro Bowl selection provided insight on how playing golf assists him on the gridiron, especially when it comes to concentration:
“It’s helped a lot. With kicking, you can definitely not be in the flow of the game and then be asked to make a big kick. I think that’s the hardest part. I grew up playing a ton of sports and even when I played football in high school and college, I was still playing other sports so I constantly had something to do. Now in the NFL when I just kick, sometimes it’s a grind mentally to make sure you are all there because the fraction of an inch or a centimeter can be the difference between you making a kick or missing it.”
The former Memphis Tiger goes on to talk about how well the rest of his team plays golf and how his best moment on a course came in front of a legendary major champion.
