Defending Masters champion Danny Willett shanked his second shot from a difficult lie near the edge of a fairway bunker on the first hole Friday, then things really took a turn for the worse. He needed six shots to settle his ball on the green, then two putts to finish off a quadruple-bogey 8.
The shot map portrays the shot-by-shot difficulties around the first green, and the video gives us a closer look at the unfortunate chain of events.
In the first two days Willett is 6-over par on No. 1, having struggled to a double bogey on Thursday. Willett has played considerably better on the rest of Augusta National’s holes, where he’s just 1-over par, but his foibles on No. 1 put him in danger of missing the cut.
