The USGA, Topgolf and Fox Sports have joined to provide a unique live viewing experience – the Ultimate U.S. Open Watch Party – during the first round of the season’s second major next week.
All 30 Topgolf venues across the country will be showing coverage of the tournament from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. EDT. The USGA is interested in bringing its top event to different audiences, something Topgolf can provide.
“We’re excited to bring the U.S. Open to new audiences, many of whom may have been introduced to the game through new avenues, and are enthusiastic about playing,” said Diana Murphy, USGA president. “We know the power of the U.S. Open to excite and inspire. Supporting a nationwide U.S. Open watch party can help advance interest in golf, and engage more people to try the game for the first time.”
According to the National Golf Foundation, about 12.8 million non-golfers are interested in trying the sport. Of those, more than 6 million are under age 29.
Topgolf served 10.5 million guests in 2016, with more than half 18-34.
“We’re excited to celebrate one of the greatest events in sports by creating a fun, social experience for our guests to play golf while they watch golf’s greats compete on TV,” said Topgolf Chief Marketing Officer Brian Radics.
Fox Sports will be providing an estimated 45 hours of live coverage.
