Craig Watson, who was preparing to captain the Great Britain & Ireland team at the 46th Walker Cup Match next week, no longer will lead the team because of a serious illness to a person in his immediate family.

In his absence, Andrew Ingram, chairman of the GB&I selectors, will take over as acting captain.

Ingram became chairman of the R&A Men’s Selection Committee in 2014. He represented Wales as a junior and amateur player before captaining the Welsh men’s Home Internationals team five times, including their win in 2002. He also captained the European Junior Ryder Cup team to victory in the United States (2004) and at Celtic Manor (2006), where Europe retained the trophy.

The Walker Cup Match will be contested Sept. 9-10 at Los Angeles Country Club in California.
