A 79-year-old New York man was arrested Monday after a high-speed chase ended with him driving recklessly around a golf course and crashing into an embankment.
As reported by 12 News WBNG in Johnson City, N.Y., Freddie Maliwacki Sr., was clocked going 93 mph on Interstate 81 in the Binghamton, N.Y., area, prompting police to pursue him. Maliwacki continued to drive as law enforcement pursued him for 30 minutes, eventually following him off the highway and onto Golden Oak Golf Course.
Before his car struck the bank and left him unable to avoid the police any further, Maliwacki caused damage to the golf course in the form of tire tracks through several greens and tee boxes, according to a Golden Oak Facebook post. Six greens were damaged, but the course remained open as they repaired the marks. Nobody was hurt in the incident.
Maliwacki was charged with felony counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief. He was sent to the Broome County jail without bail and is set to await further court appearances.
