It’s fair to say Jon Rahm has beaten the odds in his journey from the Basque Country of Spain to the golf world’s heights.
But odds are he couldn’t duplicate this approach on the second hole at TPC Scottsdale during Thursday’s first round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Rahm’s ball struck that of playing partner Xander Schauffele, sending Schauffele’s sphere careening over the green. Fortunately, under the rules, Schauffele was entitled to replace his ball in its original position on the green.
Both players made par on the 451-yard hole and were sitting near the top of the leaderboard as their opening rounds neared completion.
