Left of the green on the par-4 ninth hole at Austin Country Club is typically a place you can’t even think of trying to hit from, but Justin Thomas took the risk during his opening match Wednesday at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.
It resulted in one remarkable recovery and a par save in his match against Luke List.

At the time, Thomas’ save helped him maintain a 3-up lead on List, but that lead dwindled on the back nine. Adding to the drama, List putted with a wedge after damaging his putter on the seventh hole.
The match went to the final hole, with Thomas ultimately prevailing, 2 up.
