CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Remember the flutter of excitement associated with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson playing a practice round together at the Masters in April?
That was just a prelude, it turns out.
Woods and Mickelson – along with Rickie Fowler – will be grouped together the first two rounds at the Players Championship this week at TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, the PGA Tour announced Sunday.
That’s not the only glamour group.
Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy will play together Thursday and Friday as well, the Tour announced.
While the groups are set, the tee times have not been released.
Woods and Mickelson have not played together in tournament rounds since the 2014 PGA Championship. Over the years, they have played together 32 times in 21 events.
