Carl Alexander might have known after his unlikely start as a competitive golfer that he had a future in the game.
“I was 6 years old when my parents moved to Rye, New York,” he recalled. “Our house was at the back of the driving range at Westchester Country Club. I made friends with the neighborhood kids, and they invited me to play golf there. A couple of hours later, I came home with a trophy for winning a putting contest at a club we did not even belong to.”
His parents – celebrated golf photographer Jules Alexander and his model-turned-clothes-designer wife, Danna – joined Westchester soon after. And it was not long before the now-56-year-old Carl started winning tournaments there in more legitimate fashion. Back-to-back junior club championships in 1981-82. And two men’s club championships soon after.
