Laura Coble has looked for the brake pedal in life, but hasn’t found it. The Georgia Golf Hall of Fame amateur from Augusta is about to turn 60, still works full-time in promotional product sales and tries to build a golf schedule around her day job.
“I haven’t gotten tired of it,” Coble said. “Sometimes I get burned out trying to burn the candle at both ends with work and managing things at home and trying to prepare for tournaments. Been times in life where I haven’t been as motivated, but never tired of competing.”
Her first competition since October – the Amateur Golf Alliance Women’s Amateur Championship – ended Wednesday at The Bay Club at Mattapoisett in Massachusetts. Coble finished tied for 13th in a 45-player senior field on par with some of the best national events.
“I haven’t done as much preparation for this one as I would have liked,” she said of getting “totally wiped out” this spring by a “trifecta” of sinus infection, bronchitis and pneumonia.
