He has twice won the Herbert Warren Wind/USGA International Book Award – in 2004 for Ben Hogan, An American Life and in 2012 for American Triumvirate: Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, and the Modern Age of Golf, which inspired a documentary by Golf Channel with a script written by Dodson.
