I think Sen. Richard Blumenthal left the U.S. Senate hearing that he chaired Tuesday on the PGA Tour/LIV Golf situation very disappointed.
Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, didn’t get the circus that he had sought with Ron Price, the tour’s chief operating officer, and Jimmy Dunne, a member of the tour’s Policy Board, providing testimony in a nearly three-hour session of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. If this had been a golf match, Blumenthal got badly outplayed.
Blumenthal accused the PGA Tour of “surrender.” He used such words as “sellout” and “betrayal.” He did everything he could to try to shame the tour. It was typical Washington, D.C., performance art.
